A principal day of feasts and festivities dedicated to honoring the saints and martyrs both known and unknown throughout Christian history. * All Saints Day - the day after Halloween. Lastly, during the carnage of World War I in 1915, Pope Benedict XV extended All Souls Day to the entirety of the Catholic Church. After the conquest of the new world however, this celebration became associated with the Allhallowtide, the three-day celebration consisting of All Saints Eve, All Saints Day*, and All Souls Day* from October 31st to November 2nd. The Birth of Día de los Muertos in The New WorldĪcross the pond in ancient Mexico each August a month-long festival dedicated to the demon Mictlantecutli*, Lord of the Land of the Dead who ruled over the afterlife in Mictlan, was celebrated offering proto versions of Pan de Muertos. ![]()
